Garry Bagula Biography

Garry T Bagula
Raised on a ranch in Northern California, where the seeds of his love for the outdoors were planted and flourished in his youth, Garry Bagula has spent significant amounts of time exploring the Cascade Mountains, where he has developed a deep appreciation for nature. The evidence of volcanic activity in the region sparked his fascination with geology, which would lead to an education in the subject, a position teaching it, and, later, even a prestigious job in the oil industry that benefited from his wealth of knowledge and experience in the field. .
Like many young men in the 1960s, Garry was drafted into the Army, where he completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. It was during this time that his interest in photography developed. Following his service, Garry promptly enrolled in college, pursuing a double major in geology and mathematics. After this, he took a position in the oil fields, often keeping him from his beloved ranch and wife. He eventually took a hiatus for a few years to raise a family in the environment he grew up in and establish a business of his own.
In the mid-1990s, Garry’s passion for photography resurfaced, particularly in capturing the wonders of the natural world. He found great delight in photographing wildlife and landscapes and engaging in macro photography. By 2008, he and his wife had retired, embarking on extensive travels throughout the United States. As he dedicated himself to creating photographs, he also took on the role of instructor, imparting knowledge on photographic techniques, Photoshop, and Lightroom. His impeccable work has been recognized through publication in multiple magazines and featured on the cover of two books in which he contributed content images. Garry has received recognition, from his peers, for his exceptional work in the form of several awards from local photography competitions.
In 2020 Garry moved to Medford, Oregon, beginning a new chapter in his life which, fortunately for our local photographic community, includes a position as beginning to advanced photography instructor and educator of flora, fauna, and geological history with S.O. Rogue Eduventures.
